Between 2012 and 2014, I participated in the City of Ballarat’s Multicultural Ambassador Program in a voluntary, unpaid capacity. This was about two years after I migrated to Australia and chose to settle in Ballarat.
I want to emphasise that my involvement was deeply meaningful and I valued the experience greatly. The most rewarding aspect for me was the opportunity to build networks and connect with a diverse group of people. I am grateful for those relationships.
Our group included people who arrived in Australia as war refugees, as well as skilled migrants, yet we were united by a shared passion for Australian culture and a commitment to sharing our own cultures, languages, food, and traditions.
Several people I connected with through the program were later featured in my 2013 solo exhibition, My Australia My Journey, presented as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, the biennial photography festival held in Ballarat.
