For all who love opening their homes to strangers, this story began with a leap of faith. A few months ago, I entered an international writing contest run by Airbnb and wrote about my very first hosting experience. Out of thousands of submissions from around the world, the story was awarded Airbnb 3rd International Prize and later adapted for Airbnb’s social media platforms.

The premise was pure serendipity. She had a fear of flying. He was her first Airbnb guest and also a pilot. What unfolded was a quiet, human moment that captured the unexpected connections that can happen when we choose to share our spaces, and ourselves, with others.
