Cyanotype Workshops with Aldona Kmieć. Rediscover photography – tactile, slow, and beautifully unpredictable.
Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic processes, invented in 1842, yet it feels remarkably contemporary. Using light, water and hand-coated chemistry, this workshop invites you to step away from screens and reconnect with the physical act of making images.
Led by Polish-Australian photographic artist and educator Aldona Kmieć, these hands-on sessions are held at her studio at Montsalvat Arts Centre in Eltham.
What you will learn
• The history and principles of the cyanotype process
• How to safely mix and coat light-sensitive chemistry
• Creating photograms using botanicals and objects
• Working with photographic negatives
• The wet cyanotype technique – expressive, painterly and experimental
• Washing, drying and caring for archival prints
No prior experience is required. Suitable for beginners, photographers curious about analogue processes, and artists wanting to expand their material practice.
Why cyanotype?
In an age of instant capture and digital overload, cyanotype slows the process down. It is meditative, experimental and often delightfully imperfect. The deep Prussian blue tones, combined with the unpredictability of water and UV exposure, make every print unique.
Workshops run on select weekdays and Saturdays.
All materials provided.
Small group sizes ensure individual guidance and space to experiment.
