Italy
In 2015, it was the height of the selfie stick craze around the world, a peculiar symbol of the time. Visiting Rome, Italy in May, just at the start of the tourist season, I experienced the country as vibrant, chaotic, and utterly captivating.
My main goal was to capture the humour unfolding on the streets. There was something almost absurdly delightful about seeing tourists parade around with selfie sticks, trying to capture the perfect shot. I traveled with my parents, as they had long dreamed of visiting St. Peter’s Basilica and making a pilgrimage to the Polish cemetery at Monte Cassino, located about 3.5 hours south of Rome by train.
This series was shot on a 35mm Fujifilm XT1.
